The Rule Reserve Shiraz

VINTAGE 2008

For more than ten years, our Chief Winemaker Sam Plunkett has been crafting this Reserve Shiraz. Over this time, Sam has learned that year after year Shiraz is a variety that excels in the Strathbogie Ranges. It is also a variety that has captured his heart. As the most decorated and best known wine from the Strathbogie Ranges, we believe it has earned the right to be known as The Rule.
The fruit for The Rule 2008 was grown on our family vineyards where we thinned unfruitful shoots, lifted mobile foliage wires and leaf plucked. In the winery we drained off 10% free run juice to increase the ratio of skins to juice. We inoculated with very little yeast to increase cool soak time and ran shallow ferments for easy homogenisation of the cap with the fermenting juice. The wine then spent 16 months in mostly new, 500 litre French hogsheads.
The Rule 2008 is a rich and deep red.  Intense and complex aromas of rum and raisin, pepper, spicy oak and violets. A generous and powerful wine. Cellar for a decade.
