Seasonal Update 09/10

Interestingly, the cold weather we saw in early spring got the vines off to a slow start with some of the very coolest blocks so slow that earwigs have had the opportunity to munch on the little leaves.  Unfortunately, they have had enough of a feed to set these vines back for the whole season!  Normally the earwigs aren’t a problem as the leaves grow faster than the little monsters can eat, and in some ways we like to see them in the vineyard as they munch on other little monsters (such as leaf mites) later in the season.

That said, the majority of vines are charging away with some shoots now half a meter long and vines looking vigorous and balanced.

And as sheep farmers both families are giggling at the sight of long grass waving at us in the wind.  In some places the grass is up to the handlebars on the motorbike!

Speaking of handlebars, how do you like my effort for Movember?”

Cheers, Sam Plunkett
