Vintage 2009
Mixed tidings come from the 2009 vintage. Heat waves and bushfires have dominated this year’s harvest. The record-breaking spells of severely hot weather hit the vineyards so intensely the vines began to look distinctly toasted, with leaf edges drying out and turning brown. There was a very real chance the bulk of the harvest would be wiped out by the extraordinary temperatures.
Red wine protects against prostate cancer
Men who drink moderate amounts of red wine are only half as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as those who don’t drink it at all, according to a report in the June issue of Harvard Men’s Health Letter. What’s more, the beverage seems to be especially protective against the most advanced and aggressive cancers, lowering risk by about 60 percent.
