New investment = cool new fruit and exciting times

'I feel like I say this every newsletter, but we have been unbelievably busy!

In really exciting news, we have acquired another vineyard called Merron Park from Yabby Lake, just down the road from our other vineyards.

This is a terrific fit for the winery as we do not have a lot of Pinot Noir or Pinot Gris across our family vineyards and they are the leading varieties in the new vineyard.  The vineyard also has some exciting clones of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and small quantities of Tempranillo, Mouvedre, Cinsault, Carignan and Touriga.  So we are very excited to have all this new fruit to play with!

The vineyard is located on the southern and cooler side of Upton Road, and the cool location helps grow fruit with great intensity.  We will change practices on the vineyard to limit the yield and increase the quality of the Pinot Noir with a view to releasing a Ladies who Shoot their Lunch Pinot Noir in a couple of years.  A very exciting prospect!

Should any of our Wine Club members wish to visit the new vineyard, we’d be more than happy to show you around.  Just contact Ian Firth at Cellar Door.

On a final note, while Christmas is a busy period it's also a great time to look forward to the New Year - if you only put one thing in your diary for next year make it our 'Are you game for a wild lunch? on 3 March 2012. This is going to be one of the most exciting events of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, for more information and bookings go here."

Cheers, Matt.
